A Photographic Counterpoint to My Acrylic Painting

As one who does not focus on photo-realistic painting, I rely on my cameras for representationally expressive work. There is, after all, a lot to represent and a lot to consider and to express. So, I thought I’d add a little section on this website of mine, with some photos.

Much of what I’m selecting is, of course, is utterly subjective. For example, I have hundreds of pictures of dogs with whom I have some companionable relationship. And I find their antics so cute. I only included one of those on this site.

It’s probably the same with painting. I paint things that interest me. And, as I’ve said many places, it’s largely so I have something to look forward to enjoying when I walk into my studio in the morning.

Rather than becoming a sales catalog, this website has become a memoir to some of the pieces I find intriguing. There are thousands more, but one can only do what one does. And I’m already violating lots of conventions for artists’ on-line presence, whatever that might be.

Plus, being something of a recluse — as a practicing Clinical Psychologist, I saw a lot of people every day for half a century, so that particular itch is meaningfully scratched — I imagined getting paintings into galleries or other kinds of exhibitions would lead to interesting conversations — you know, beyond, “How’s the weather? (Which, I’d like to note, is becoming a more substantive topic by the day).

But still — I hoped for conversations about thoughts or intentions or the ephemerality of it all or the fact that paintings are so much like fossils: Residues of the passing of some living being with moments of sapience.

I figured the same would be true with photography exhibitions. So, after having gotten bits and pieces successfully placed in competitions (including an ‘Artist of the Month’ with Jerry’s Artarama for an atmospheric photo), I imagined someone might say something.

You know, like, “Nice tree. It looks like you were having some weather when you took that.”  Nope.

So, all of this is just an offering to the Universe.

I invite you to say something, if you want. Something kind, perhaps. I once made a comment advocating collaboration on Twitter when I used to try to participate and received a reply accusing me of being a Communist. I didn’t find that particularly useful — or conducive to ‘Living Forward.”
